Uzbekistan ended its first World Cup campaign with three group-stage defeats, according to FIFA’s review of the Asian teams at the tournament.
Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored Uzbekistan’s first goal in World Cup history. His goal came in a 3-1 defeat to Colombia.
Eldor Shomurodov’s goal against DR Congo won the initial group stage of the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament vote. The striker received 36% of the vote; the result advanced the goal to a later selection stage and was not the final award.
FIFA described Fabio Cannavaro’s side as technical and hard-working while noting that the players tired during matches. The organisation also singled out 18-year-old Behruz Karimov among those who gained experience competing at world level.
Uzbekistan was one of nine Asian Football Confederation representatives making a first appearance at the 2026 World Cup. Its campaign ended after three group matches.
