Neymar responded to criticism after taking part in a poker tournament on the day of Santos’s away match, Goal reported.
The club had approved his stay in São Paulo in advance. Santos meanwhile beat Venezuela’s Universidad Central 4-1 in the Copa Sudamericana.
“Life is a joke,” Neymar wrote on social media.
Head coach Cuca said the forward had been given time to recover after the World Cup and was spared the long trip.
According to Goal, Neymar is preparing for Santos’s next Brazilian league match against Chapecoense. His contract with the club runs until December.
