Meta is no longer part of RE100, the international initiative for companies committed to renewable electricity, the company confirmed. It did not disclose the exact date its participation ended.
A Meta representative described the end of its participation as a mutual decision. The company had belonged to the initiative for about a decade and says it remains committed to matching its data-centre electricity use with clean and renewable energy.
The current RE100 member register lists 444 companies. Meta is absent, while Apple, Google and Microsoft remain members.
Neither side publicly stated a reason for the departure. Tighter RE100 reporting rules and the expansion of gas-fired generation linked to Meta therefore should not be presented as an established explanation.
The RE100 commitment concerns the electricity companies consume rather than all energy use. The initiative requires members to set transition deadlines and disclose progress.
