Poland expelled an Uzbek citizen after authorities issued a return decision, the Nadbużański Border Guard Unit reported.
Border Guard officers from Lublin, including the Zamość field group, detained the man during a check on the legality of his stay. He had just left Zamość prison after serving a custodial sentence.
According to the agency, he organized the transport of illegal migrants from the Poland-Belarus border deeper into Poland. He knowingly broke the law and received significant financial benefit.
Authorities determined that his continued stay in the country posed a threat to public safety and public order. They subsequently issued a return decision.
Border Guard officers escorted him to the Warsaw-Okęcie air border crossing. He then left Poland.
Under Polish law, aiding or organizing an illegal border crossing and transporting people who crossed the border illegally may be prosecuted under Article 264, sections 2 and 3. Depending on the circumstances, courts may impose prison terms ranging from six months to eight years.
The man was banned from entering Poland and other Schengen countries for 10 years.
