Uzbekistan has updated the digital certificates that secure its citizens’ biometric passports, the Interior Ministry reported.
The work was completed on July 21 at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal. The delegation included specialists from the Personalization Center under the Interior Ministry’s Migration and Personalization Department.
The update covered the public key infrastructure, or PKI, and the international ICAO PKD directory used by countries to exchange data for verifying electronic travel documents. The procedure complied with the ICAO Doc 9303 standard.
The updated certificates were distributed to all countries participating in ICAO PKD. The ministry said this should prevent difficulties when foreign border authorities verify Uzbek biometric passports.
The update is also expected to strengthen the integrity of passport data and improve the security of international travel. Uzbekistan said it would continue improving its electronic travel document infrastructure.
