Luis Figo believes Kylian Mbappe’s World Cup performance has put him among the potential Ballon d’Or winners, Goal reports.
“Mbappe and his great World Cup performance will surely put him among the potential winners.” — Luis Figo.
Figo said voters should consider the full season, including domestic honours and the Champions League, rather than judging players only on the World Cup.
“And I would certainly include a PSG player who has won the Champions League again. The whole year should count. Logically, the World Cup can tip the scales when choosing the winner, but domestic titles and the Champions League are also very important.” — Luis Figo.
“I would perhaps highlight Vitinha and [Desire] Doue, who have had a great season despite the World Cup not going so well for them, especially for Portugal. I would include all of them among the candidates.” — Luis Figo.
Mbappe finished the 2026 World Cup with ten goals to win the Golden Boot. His career total of 22 World Cup goals is the tournament record.
