Amazon has eliminated some roles within parts of its artificial general intelligence organization, according to a Reuters report published by USA Today.
Reuters could not immediately establish the full scope of the cuts. Employees reporting to Adeeb Shanaa and Vishal Sharma said they had been affected.
“We’ve been building large AI models for several years, and it remains one of the most important things we’re working on. We’re sharpening our focus on the initiatives that matter most for customers, so we can move faster on what counts. That focus means some difficult decisions, including eliminating some roles within parts of our AGI organization,” Amazon said in a statement to Reuters.
The changes followed a leadership reshuffle. Rohit Prasad left the company at the end of 2025, David Luan departed in February 2026, and AGI work had previously been consolidated under Peter DeSantis.
The latest cuts are separate from the approximately 16,000 corporate roles Amazon said it would eliminate in January. In that announcement, the company said it was simplifying its structure but did not tie that figure to the AGI organization.
