The Lada Azimut has gained additional side-impact sensors and undergone a 32 km/h pole-impact test, AvtoVAZ said.
The test was conducted under UN Regulation No. 135 in addition to the mandatory programme. The pole was aligned with the driver dummy’s head and struck the side of the vehicle.
According to the manufacturer, the seat-belt pretensioner, side airbag and curtain airbag deployed. Head loading reached 38.4% of the permitted value, while the other measured areas also remained within the limits.
AvtoVAZ said it recorded no fuel leak after the impact. The hazard lights switched on automatically, the doors unlocked and the ERA-GLONASS emergency system activated.
The Azimut is the first Lada model with additional impact sensors in the doors and centre pillar, as well as pressure sensors. The results come from the manufacturer’s own test and do not constitute an independent safety rating.
The company also said some solutions developed for the Azimut were transferred to the platform-sharing Vesta. Its statement did not specify when sales would begin or which production trims would receive the equipment.
